In mid-2020, as the pandemic dragged on, we learned of the death of the great American songwriter John Prine. That prompted me to ask Seattle singer-songwriter Larry Murante to join my wife Tina and me in recording Prine’s classic “Angel from Montgomery,” made popular by Bonnie Raitt.
From our separate homes, we recorded vocals, harmonica (played by Larry) and guitar and mandolin (played by me). For the visual backdrop I used video clips of the three of us, plus, in keeping with the song’s desolate tone, a montage of photos I’d taken of dilapidated farms and houses.
